Business Rates Support for Harrow Businesses

14 May 2010

Submitted by: Laurie Bernard/ Bali Rai

Harrow Council is offering up to 100% business rate relief for eligible small and medium sized businesses suffering financial hardship during the current economic climate.
The rateable value of the property for which the application is being made must not be more than or £21,500 under the 1st April 2005 rating list or £25,499 under the 1st April 2010 rating list. Applicants must have only one trading outlet in London Borough of Harrow and be in receipt of Small Business Rate Relief. These awards are for the current financial year of 2010-2011.
Businesses will need to provide evidence that they are sustaining extreme hardship and that Harrow Council Tax payers will suffer if hardship relief is not granted.
The assistance will seek to secure the financial sustainability of small businesses and the consequent continued employment of Harrow residents.
While in the main the scheme will only be considered for the current year, we will consider applications where the rate payer has previous years debts for 09 and there are exceptional circumstances.
Further information, as well as Hardship Relief forms, can be obtained from www.harrow.gov.uk/businessrates or contact the team on 020 8901 2610
The Council's Hardship Fund provides help with meeting the rates bills for the worst-affected businesses in Harrow.
Traders who can prove that their business would suffer hardship if they had to pay the full rate may be eligible for a discount on the bill.
